Keeping An Inventory For E-Bay Items
There was a time when a good friend of mine asked, “How much inventory do you have in stock”, when discussing my E-Bay business.
“I don’t really know” I replied, stating that I had a LOT.
I attempted to explain that I just list the items in my E-Bay storeĀ and live on cash flow from the items that sell.
“Horrible idea!”
This friend had been in retail all his life and is now retired. He diligently convinced me I needed an inventory program to keep up with my costs and my profits. Else, how do I know my time is worth the effort I put into the business.
Actually, he said I either have a business or I have a hobby. “Which is it?”
Well, I had always thought of it as a business. So, I took his advice and ordered an inventory program to keep up with my vintage jewelry for sale.
The inventory program automatically creates a report for any specified period of time. It shows a SKU number that I assign the piece of jewelry. It shows the cost, when it sells, and how much I sold it for. . . plus many other features.
I highly recommend an inventory program to anyone seeking to sellĀ or already selling items on EBay. It will make life a whole lot easier and will make your business more profitable when you can see where the profit (or loss) is. Dating the inventory stock allows me to move the old stuff to make room for other acquisitions.
